For many years my property in Healesville was plagued with deer. As soon as bud burst came in my Chardonnay vines they were there, stripping the new buds and eventually destroying the crop. At first I thought that this was due to the kangaroos, but after a bit of research I found out the real culprits.
A number of hunters and "would be" pest controllers had a go at trying to shoot them, but the deer were either too wary or they were incapable of finding them and destroying them - even though they set up cameras and knew their pathways.
Luckily along came Jake from VPAC.
Immediately I could see that he really knew his stuff. He walked the property with me pointing out tell-tale signs that I had not noticed. From his experience in working with National Parks Deer Control programs, he was confident that he knew where they would be and at what time, so he came the next day and set up his cameras and hides. Just after dark we heard the first shot, this was followed by two more later in the evening and by midnight 3 deer had been removed from the property. The next week he checked his cameras to further pinpoint their movements before getting two more. This procedure has been repeated over the past months with success each time.
Jake and the highly-skilled shooters in his team, use thermal imagery to locate the deer before delivering a single lethal shot. They are extremely professional in the way that they go about the task of deer eradication and always take the utmost care to shoot safely. Put simply, if they think that the shot is not 100% safe, they will not take it. As the deer were coming close to our house, this was a very important consideration.
I would thoroughly recommend Jake's company VPAC to anyone who has a pest problem. If they can have so much success with the wily Sambar deer, then many other feral animals would be much easier game. Their skill, strike rate, safety and professionalism make them so easy to deal with and separates VPAC from the many cowboys out there, who simply want to get a set of antlers!"

Footnote: After writing this I got Jake to check the data on the cameras, still located on the property and there is not one deer to be seen on any of them for 30 days. Now that we have removed the main resident deer we can look forward to a significant reduction in sightings and damage. Naturally there will be transient deer moving back in at some stage, as the removal of resident deer will create a vacuum, but these should be able to be managed with a bit of monitoring and an occasional maintenance visit. It is good to know that Jake and the VPAC crew are only a phone call away!

We have a 52 acre farm on the edge of National Park and feral deer have been destroying my house garden & vegetable garden for years. Our feral deer problem has been deteriorating. Agapanthus eating just 20 metres from house!
Jake and his team set up camouflaged hides and on one evening successfully with 3 shooters (set up completely seperately and totally safe apart) were able to cull 3 deer in the one evening session. Jake used aerial photography of our farm to help plan his attack.
